2019 Huntin' Fool/Fierce Firearms Story Contest

You must have successfully harvested a qualifying big game animal during the 2018 calendar year to participate in this contest (see official rules for more details or our staff article on how to submit your story). For our 2019 Story Contest, we are excited to have Fierce Firearms as the Title Sponsor. Each month, printed stories and web stories are eligible for our Readers’ Choice Story Contest. Voting for this contest is open to Huntin’ Fool members and non-members. Everyone who visits our website will have access to read and vote for their favorite story. This year, the prize for this contest is Leupold. The winner of our Readers’ Choice Story Contest will receive a pair of Leupold BX-5 Santiam HD 10x50mm binos valued at over $1,600. Go to to vote for your favorite story each month.

When you submit a story with a wide variety of photos, you’ll get rewarded! We want to be able to feature as many stories as possible, whether they be printed in our magazine or published on our website. Sharing your stories builds up our community. Just for sending us your story and photos, we will send you a Huntin’ Fool window decal.

Official Rules

  1. ELIGIBILITY: Contest is offered and open to all hunters, but current Huntin' Fool members, anyone residing with or related to a Huntin' Fool member, and Endorsed Outfitters will be given first priority. You must have successfully harvested a qualifying big game animal during the 2018 calendar year to participate in this contest. If the story is not written by the hunter, the prizes will go to the author. Void where prohibited by law. Each entrant must be of legal hunting age in the state in which they are hunting. U.S. laws govern this contest. The winners may not be an employee of Huntin' Fool ("Sponsor") nor an individual domiciled with any such employee. By entering, you agree to these Official Rules, which are final and binding in all respects.

  2. STORY REQUIREMENTS: 2018 hunt stories are preferred. Any story submitted pertaining to a hunt prior to 2018 will not be considered for printing in the magazine. Animal must be harvested legally in accordance with state and federal regulations. Stories must be 500 to 1,500 words. You must submit a minimum of three photos to qualify. Sponsor reserves the right to edit stories for content and/or length without notice. When submitting your stories, include the location of the hunt, species, name, address, and contact information. Include original photos from your camera's SD card or iPhone in their highest resolution and indicate if you have additional photos.   3. CONTEST PERIOD: Contest period begins on January 1, 2019 at 12:01 a.m. Mountain Time (MT) and ends on December 31, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. (MT). We will accept stories as soon as you have successfully completed a 2018 hunt. All entries must be received by October 1, 2019 at the latest to be considered for the December 2019 issue.

  4. CONSUMER DISCLOSURE - PRIZES AND ODDS OF WINNING: A full description of each prize package, and associated retail value, can be found on our website. Entrants must submit their entries in accordance with these Official Rules. Deadlines are identified under "CONTEST PERIOD." The odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received. It is expressly understood that Sponsor is under no obligation to the entrants, potential winners and winners, other than as expressly set forth herein. Winners are solely responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes and fees associated with the receipt and use of any prize.

  5. ENTRY FOR CONTEST: Entry may be made by mail or by email to Stories must be mailed to: 2019 Huntin' Fool Story Contest, PO Box 250, Cedar City, UT 84721. Complete submittal requirements are identified under "STORY REQUIREMENTS." Sponsor is not responsible for any lost, incomplete, illegible, late, mutilated or misdirected entries. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to void any and all entries of an entrant who Sponsor believes has attempted to tamper with or impair the administration, security, fairness or proper play of this contest; and to cancel the contest.

  6. STORY SELECTION: We appreciate the opportunity to share in your success. If your story and photos are selected for print in our magazine, we will contact you with updated information about which issue you will be printed in. This contact process may take a few weeks to a few months as stories and photos go through a rigorous selection process. We receive a large number of submissions each year, and while we try to print as many as we can, we select the ones that make it to print based on a number of different factors. These factors include photo quality, number of photos submitted, diversity of photos, state, species, etc. Specific state and species stories are selected to fit with certain state sections included in a particular issue. Therefore, we ask for your patience as your submission is put through this process, checked by the Magazine Department and the Hunt Advisors. We will do our best to get back with you in a timely manner if your submission is selected for publication.

    All entries become the exclusive property of Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned, unless otherwise requested by Submitter. Sponsor reserves the exclusive right to publish any story submitted. Huntin' Fool requests the opportunity to publish their hunt story in print. Furthermore, Huntin' Fool has permission to use any photo(s) submitted by the hunter/author for use on their website or other electronic form or any media, including print, or in any other manner desired without notifying Submitter. Huntin' Fool, in return, agrees to credit the hunter/photographer with the photo wherever possible.

  7. AWARD AND PRIZES: Each story and photos submitted to Huntin' Fool is eligible to receive a Huntin' Fool window decal. Of the stories submitted, approximately 150 will be published in the Huntin' Fool magazine. The hunters/authors whose stories are published in the magazine will receive four free copies of the issue in which they were published and a Huntin' Fool Story Package valued at $200 that includes a five-piece all-purpose Camp Chef set (including a spatula, santoku knife, tongs, flat-nosed spoon, and carrying case), a Klymit Pillow X, an Outdoor Edge knife, an exclusive Huntin' Fool jacket, and a Huntin' Fool hat. Each story selected for the 12 covers of the Huntin' Fool magazine will receive a Fierce Firearms Fury long-range rifle valued at over $2,400. All published stories (excluding the cover story) and Web Stories will be combined and selected as Readers' Choice Stories and voted on each month by our readers. Each month, the story with the highest number of votes will receive a pair of Leupold BX-5 Santiam HD 10x50mm binos valued at over $1,600. In the event of a tie, a random drawing will be held to determine the winner. Gift certificates or prizes will be delivered to winners on or before January 20, 2020. Winners have the right to forfeit any prize, which forfeiture must be done in a signed writing. Prizes will not be reassigned and alternative potential winners will not be selected. Prizes are non-transferable.

  8. TAXES ARE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WINNERS: The winners shall be responsible for all taxes, fees, or other costs, including, without limitation, any travel or transportation costs, associated with winning.

  9. GENERAL CONDITIONS: Prizes are non-transferable, subject to change, and there are no substitutions on any prizes (Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prizes). The depiction of the prizes in any advertising or promotional materials may not reflect the actual prize delivered to the winners.

  10. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY: Sponsor or participating sponsors, and their respective affiliates, employees, officers, directors, shareholders, agents, representatives, successors, assigns, and licensees ("Released Parties") shall not be liable for any property loss, damage, personal injury, or death or any claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy, resulting from participating in this contest or from the acceptance or use of the prizes awarded. Any dispute shall be resolved individually without resort to any form of class action.

  11. LIABILITY/PUBLICITY RELEASE: The potential winners shall each be required to execute an affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release by December 31, 2019 and prior to receipt of each prize or forfeit the prize. By submitting an entry and participating in this contest, entrants irrevocably transfer, grant and assign to the Sponsor, its affiliates and its respective successors, assigns, and licensees (unless prohibited by law), the right worldwide and in perpetuity, to use entrant's name, likeness, voice and photograph in any and all media for any advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation, as well as on the Sponsor's website in connection with this contest and other promotions, and release Sponsor and any entity acting on behalf of Sponsor from any liability with respect thereto.

  12. FIREARMS: All winners must fill out all appropriate paperwork prior to receiving a firearm. It is the sole responsibility of the winner to file appropriate paperwork.
