Hunting has consumed virtually all of my 58 years, except for maybe the diaper years. I cut my teeth with a Crossman .177 caliber combo bb/pellet gun, which I still have, when I was way too young to pack it around unchaperoned, at least by today’s standards. I thought I was certain death to a variety of birds that honed in on the ripe Mulberries in the tree up the lane from my house. If I wasn’t stalking and assassinating birds, I was catching trout in the local stream with a gold Mepps #1 spinner. I didn’t think there was a fish alive that I couldn’t catch with that gold hardware!
I had a regular job or two when I was first married, and my two sons, Josh and Nic, were born during that timeframe. I figured out quickly that a regular job was something I was not interested in. At the age of 27, I informed my wife that another guy from central Utah and I were going to lease private ranches and start our own outfitting business. My family thought I was crazy, but they were supportive, and the rest, as they say, was history.
We operated a very successful outfitting operation together for about 22 years, helping many clients harvest their dream animals. In 2007, I got an offer from Huntin’ Fool to manage their Endorsed Outfitter program, and I have been doing just that for the last 8 years.
Hunting is a very personal and precious thing to me; it keeps me young and motivated. I want to take some trophy animals as bad as the next guy, but it’s not the kill that drives me, it truly is the need to hunt and see the sun rise in unfamiliar country. With that being said, my family takes precedence over all of my bad habits, and doing things with them is my greatest joy.
As always, I look forward to hearing from you when you are looking for the various hunting opportunities that interest you.
